He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Ellis and Gertrude Meigs Ellis; his wife Ethellene Daughtry Ellis; his daughter Anita Ellis Gainey; and his siblings, Charles, Meigs, Clayton, Joseph, Robert, Elizabeth Ellis Kaminski, Helen Ellis Daughtry and Margaret Ellis Mahon.
He is survived by: his son Charles "Chuck" Ellis; and his grandchildren, Todd Gainey (Sarah Jane) of Tallahassee and Laura Gainey of DeFuniak Springs. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins.
