He was predeceased by : his son Ryan McCaffery Boynes. He is survived by : his wife Mary Ann; his children, Shirl J. D'Amico (Robert) and Donald B. Boynes III; his sister Shirl Krenn; and his grandchildren, Erin, Dominique, Amanda, Noah and Ryan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
