He was predeceased by: his parents, John Zell and Elsie Loy Zell. He is survived by: his close friend Mary Lou Eaton; his daughters, Kristin Wise (Rob Stevens) and Jennifer Harrison (Chris); his grandchildren, Cody Wise, Harley Wise, Abby Crown, Kelsey Crown, Cadie Scroggs and Noah Harrison; his stepgrandchildren, Chris Harrison Jr. and Zachary Harrison; his siblings, Nancy Dillon, Billy Zell (Sue) and Patty Jackson; and his half-sister Maryann Gilliam. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 7th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes (106 E Church St, Frederick, MD 21701). A funeral service was held on Friday, November 7th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's Name to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
