He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Earl Alonza Carper and Verna Bell Gray Carper; his spouse German (Elisabeth Wust); his children, Joan Carper (Chris Becker), Sevenoaks, England, James Carper Jr. (Donna) and Irma Carper Miller (Bernie); his grandsons, Jon Carper of Providence, RI and Bill Carper of Groton, CT; and his half-sisters, Rose Myers Gomez (Reuben) and Patty Young of Mapleton Depot, PA. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
