He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Akers and Bedo Akers; and his siblings, Roscoe Akers (Geraldine), Annadean Parker (Bill), Della Akers (Carl) and Rosemary Rogers (Jim).
He is survived by: his daughters, Miranda Merritt (Jesse) and Terrah Gardner; his husband Charles Gardner; his grandson Jackson Merritt; and his siblings, Walter Akers (late Caryl), Ira Akers (Loretta), Benny Akers (Tammy), Joe Akers (Sue), Gennevieve Dome (late Richard) and Nina Medford (late Tom). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
