He was predeceased by : his parents, Mancel C. Merritt and Ester V. Merritt; and his brother Lawrence E. Merritt. He is survived by : his children, Joseph Clay Merritt, Sophia L. Russ and Tony R. Merritt (Tina); his sister Louise Baxter; and his grandchildren, Jacob Merritt, Jason Hutchins (Amanda), Heather Lynn Meier (Troy), Jessica Stanford, Dalton Price and Brandy Cooper (Cecilia). He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
