He was predeceased by : his parents, John Carl McGowan and Ruth Schmidt McGowan; and his sister Barbara Fudge. He is survived by : his wife Golla McGowan; his stepdaughters, Diane Bass, Barbara Weaver (Luke) and Brenda Blanton; his grandson Ryan Blanton; and his brothers, Richard McGowan and Jerry McGowan. He is also survived by several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
