He was predeceased by: his parents, Audrey Estelle Bailey and Harvey Otis Day of Augusta, Georgia.; his wife Ruth Melba Day; and his siblings, James Wesley Day and Yvonne Andrews.
He is survived by: his son James Ray "Jimmy" Day; his grandchildren, Jessica Day, Jeremy Day and Wesley Day; his nephew Jim Day (Laurie); his great-niece Vicki Colanese Carol Jorene (Jordan); his sibling's children, Janet Lynn Brissell, Oral Day (Sherry) and David Ottis Day; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Otkia Lassiter, Beronica, Kiera, Breana, Brenden George and Daniel; and his sibling's children, Derek Day, Derik Day II, Destiny Day, Damion Day and Gilbert Andrews (Jennifer).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 16th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lakeland Funeral Home (2125 Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 16th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Lakeland Memorial Gardens (2125 Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 16th 2025 at the Lakeland Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens (2125 Bartow Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801).
He was known for collecting scrap metal—anything with wires, copper, or parts worth salvaging—not for personal gain, but so he could donate the proceeds to help others in need. He loved giving to charity, often quietly and without recognition.
