He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry George Smith and Wilhelmina Lydia Smith. He is survived by: his former wife Betty McRae; his children, Melanie, Cheryl Smith and Alan Andrews; his wife Barbara Smith; his stepdaughters, Janis and Roshonda Andrews; and his sister Gertrude Clarrett of New York. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
