Constance Spinos Obituary
Constance Spinos, the wife of the late James T. Spinos, passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 99 in Palm Coast, Florida. She was the devoted mother of Elaine (James) Pitenis of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Karen (Thom) Howell of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. Loving grandmother of Dr. Angela Pitenis of Santa Barbara, California, Connie Pitenis of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, Victoria Pitenis of Tampa, Florida, and James John Pitenis of Daytona Beach, Florida; sister of Sophia Govostes of Sarasota, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband James, her sister Bess Efstathopoulos, and her brother James Efstratiou.
Constance was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on March 13, 1925 to Plutarchos and Helen (Konaka) Efstratiou. The family soon moved to Somerville, Massachusetts in 1926. She was a 1943 graduate of Somerville High School, as well as a 1946 graduate of Jackson Von Laudo School of Art & Fashion Design in Boston. She worked in the field of fashion design for many years before marrying James T. Spinos in 1952 and lived in Cambridge for 57 years. Constance was a graduate of Boston State College in 1972 with a degree in English and Home Economics and was a Cambridge School Teacher for many years before retiring in 1984. She was a Past President of the Daughters of Penelope, and a Member Emeritus of the East End House in Cambridge. Constance was a woman of great integrity and many talents including great knowledge of Greek cuisine. Constance was a brilliant, kind, generous, funny, happy, caring, and fun-loving person who we will all dearly miss.
Constance's family expresses their appreciation and gratitude to her phenomenal and dedicated caregivers, Gleisiany Mihoc in Massachusetts, and Miss Ida Harris and Miss Judy in Florida.
The funeral was held on May 9th at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Graveside service and burial were held on May 11th at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Both services were attended by dozens of dear friends and family.
