He was predeceased by : his parents, King Lester and Grace Peel Whitaker; his wife Lalay Elizabeth Moore Whitaker; and his siblings, Donald Whitaker and Effie Hogan.

He is survived by : his daughter JoAnn Petrov (Steve) of Ponce Inlet, FL; his granddaughters, Cheryl Plasterer (Scott) and Lori Kempton (Brian); and his great grandchildren, Brycen and Zoe Kempton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
