He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Tharpe and Zenobia Robinson Tharpe; and his brother Ronald E. Tharp. He is survived by: his brother Frazier "Fritz"; his children, Tabitha Woods (Ervin) and Jerrad Leffew (Jessica); his stepson Tommy Billiteri; his grandchildren, Alexcis, Tatyana, Isaiah, Rowan and Ellis; his nephews, Abdullah, Tyshawn, Kaamil, Jaarmil, Naadir and Frazier J. II; and his sister-in-law Lori.
