He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Cole and Elizabeth Cole (O'Brien) of Lenox, Massachusetts.; and his wife Janet A. Malumphy. He is survived by: his children, Sandra J. Racette (Robert), Richard J. Cole Jr. of Becket Massachusetts and Daniel J. Cole (Donna Dow Zsofka) of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.; and his grandchildren, David, Daniel, Elizabeth Bradley and Richard Dombkowski. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
