“I will always think of Barry and how we became friends from a long time ago, as I described in my sympathy message for those who were close to him. His absolutely genuine kindness and consideration of other people was his unique character strength. That kindness is how I met Barry. He had stopped to help a stranger, me, out of a jam. During the past 35 years, living on different sides of the country, we maintained our friendship by phone calls. Now I know others thought the same about Barry.”

“I was sad to read of Barry's passing. I knew Barry from 1972, from an experience that proved to be uniquely Barry. I was 16 and my dirt bike broke down deep in the woods of Georgia. Barry rode by on his dirt bike, stopped, and being a gifted mechanic and a good person, he helped me fix it. We became friends. We rode dirt bikes all around Athens Georgia. Around 1974 he moved back to Florida. I visited him a few times there. Later I moved out west, but we continued our long distance friendship.”

Stefanie Schatzman wrote a sympathy message

“Barry has acreage in our rural community. In the early years of owning it, he would ride his bike on the property. I later mowed trails throughout the property so that it could easily be biked or walked. Barry was unique with his long, flowing white hair. I teased him that it looked like he lived in his car because of all the things tossed around inside. I last spoke with him just before COVID. This is a shock, and I will miss him.”
