He was predeceased by: his parents, Theron Wilkes Sr. and Esther Wilkes; his daughters, Ann Dees, Ellen Zarnits and Marsha Baker; and his siblings, Lilian Johnson, Louise Johnson, Fred Wilkes, Billy Joe Wilkes, Harold Wilkes and Dale Wilkes.
He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Wilkes; his children, Clyde E. Mercer, Timothy D. Mercer, Clarence E. Mercer, Melissa H. Jones (Daniel) and Teresa Petersen (Juan); and his brother Douglas Wilkes. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was also a dedicated member of Masonic Lodge #13, where he upheld the principles of brotherhood, charity, and integrity.
