He is survived by: his wife Carolyn McCray Franklin; his children, Sally Franklin, Laura Ann Crumpton, Sam Franklin III (Karen) and Robert Franklin (Donna); his stepdaughter Michelle Westlake (Paul); his grandchildren, Allie Fry (Zac), Sam Franklin IV, Emily Franklin and Alex Franklin; his brother Jimmy Franklin of Statesboro; and his sister-in-law Fay Foy Franklin of Statesboro.
