He was predeceased by: his son John F. Bates, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, William A. Bates (Diane Bates), Karen Bates Sigg (David Sigg) and Diane Bates Leibach (Jim Leibach); and his grandchildren, Alex, Stephen, Chelsea Bates, William Sigg, Greyson Sigg, Camille, Thomas and Walker Leibach.
