She was predeceased by: her parents, Lela Smith Griffin and Charlie Kendrick Griffin, Sr.; her former husband James Edward Patterson, Sr.; her grandson Dustin Sweeney; and her siblings, Geneive Griffin James, Mary Ellen Griffin Watkins, Lela Mae Griffin Hoover, Johnny Woodrow Griffin, William Hugh Griffin and Charlie Kendrick Griffin, Sr..

She is survived by: her husband Leonard Dewey Thompson, Sr.; her children, Sharon Patterson Hunt (Glen), Diane Patterson Ringgold (Kenny), Carol Patterson Sweeney, Donna Patterson Shinault (Marc) and James "Jim" Patterson, Jr. (Lynn Copeland); her stepsons, Leonard Thompson, Jr. (Judy) and Tim Thompson (Nellie); her grandchildren, Ray Ferguson, Jr., Marcy Ferguson Babb, Adam Sweeney and Jered McCorkle; and her stepdaughter Melissa Headen.
