He is survived by: his wife Donna Marie Hall-McDowell; his children, Frederick "Grant" McDowell, III, Katherine Marie McDowell, Laura Elizabeth McDowell and Mary Katherine Adams; and his sisters, Betsy McMinn and Phyllis Oliver. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
