He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Wilson Gattis and Agnes Preston Tripp Gattis; his sisters, Virginia Tripp Dickey, Mattie Tripp Moorehead, Lyda Gattis Mullins and Francis Gattis Hines; and his half-brother Wilson Dickey.

He is survived by: his former spouse Melna June Whitehead; his son Doug Jr.; his wife Esta Brian Gattis; his son Douglas W. Gattis, Jr. (Jackie Denard Gattis); his grandchildren, Douglas Wayne Gattis, III (Lauryn Gattis) and Dillon James Gattis; his daughter Tamera Gattis Alexander (Joe F. Alexander); his grandchild Kelsey Lynn Alexander; his great grandchild Joseph Kurt Alexander; and his half-brother M. L. Dickey.
