He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Smith and Lessie Moody Smith; his wife Margaret Barrs Smith; his brothers, A. C. Smith, Olen Smith and Donahue Smith; and his nephew Wayne Riggins.
He is survived by: his siblings, Eloise Riggins Johnson (Billy) of Blackshear and Paul Monroe Smith of San Antonio, TX; and his siblings' children, Darlene Smith (Reggie), Patricia Tyson (David) of Blackshear, Charlene Riggins (Mike Purvis) of Blackshear and Kevin Riggins (Jennifer) of Waycross. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; and many friends and other relatives.
