He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Minor, Sr. and Myrtie E. Whitmire Porter; his wife Alma Bloodworth Porter; his siblings, Rex Porter, Hoyt Porter, Marcus T. "Pete" Porter, Carrie Wallace and Lucille Chastain; and his great great grandchild Chance Porter Abernathy.

He is survived by : his sons, Joseph Terry "Bucky" (Diane Porter) and Jerry Michael "Bo" (Shirley Porter); his grandchildren, Joseph Scott Porter (Debbie), James Todd Porter (Angie), Terry Rodney Porter (Denise) and Jennifer Michelle Porter; his great grandchildren, Samantha Sutton (Ricky), Chris Porter (Renee), Madison Porter and Sabrina Porter; his great great grandchildren, Laci Sutton, Joseph Watson Porter and Gavin Levi Whitehead; his siblings, Gene Porter (Vickie), Ruby Dean Harley (J. D.) and Barbara Ivey (Jeff); and his sisters-in-law, Laverne Porter and Christine Porter. He is also survived by nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Due to the current pandemic Mr. Porter's room will be open at 2p. m. Monday July 6, 2020 but the family will receive friends form 5:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Monday at the funeral home.
