He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry L. Brown and Madge Blaylock Brown; his former wife Ella Frances Baird Brown; and his siblings, Ralph Brown, Virginia Minter, Martha Fields, James Brown and Jeff Brown.
He is survived by: his children, Charles Brown, Ella Frances Bonner (Monty), Joseph Atkins (Marybeth) and William Atkins (Shannon); his grandchildren, Stayton Bonner (Catherine), Walter Bonner, John Bonner, Los Angeles, Second Lt, Joseph Atkins, Jr., Mary Sutherland Atkins, Banks and Mary Inman Atkins; his great grandchildren, Birdwell and Stayton Ellwood Bonner; his brothers, Burton Brown, Joe Brown (Betty) and Robert "Bo" Brown (Mary Minor); and his sisters-in-law, Catherine Girardeau Brown, Ann Andrews, Kensington and Pearl Brown.
