He was predeceased by : his parents, Grady Henry and Bertha Eaker Hewitt; his daughter Darlene Hewitt; his grandson Eric Jones; and his brother Jeff Hewitt.

He is survived by : his wife Lois Burkett Hewitt; his children, Lynn (Tammie Hewitt), Billy (Teresa Hewitt, Jr.), Charlene Wall of Benton, TN, Shirley (Tim Ridley), Sue (Kenneth Wilson) and Tammy Acosta of Dalton, GA; his grandchildren, Amy, Chris James, Rodney Hewitt, Jennifer, Marcus Tate, Bradley Richardson, Kayla, Cody Plott, Destiny, John Fowler, Jacob, Taya Hewitt, Alexis Hewitt, Barry Jones, Adam, Keisha Wilson and Michael Quinn; and his brothers, Teddy Hewitt of Rocky Face, GA and Jerry Hewitt of Rocky Face, GA. He is also survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 9:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Ponders Funeral Home - Dalton (138 Melrose Dr, Dalton, GA 30721).
