He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Joseph Sr. and Jean Karaty. He is survived by: his son Mike Karaty, III (Stephanie); and his grandchildren, Michael Karaty, IV and Mia Karaty.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Murphy Harpst Life and Hope for Children Foundation.
