He was predeceased by: his parents, Pius Awuzie and Beatrice Anene Awuzie. He is survived by: his wife Juliet Uzoma Ngwuli-Awuzie; his son Richard Awuzie, Jr.; his siblings, Kevin, Chima, Ukachukwu, Christian, Christopher, Odera, Uzoamaka, Ugochi and Ndidiamaka; and his sisters-in-law, Gloria, Ann Nkiru Odera, Chioma and Ngozi. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
