He was predeceased by: his parents, William Edgar Childs and Fannie Mae Scott Childs; his wife Jo Anne Johnson Childs; and his siblings, Margaret Oakley, William Edgar Childs, Jr. and Essie Mae Childs.
He is survived by: his grandson Samuel Edgar "Sammy" Childs; his daughter-in-law Denise Josephine Saxon Childs of Elberton; and his sister Jeweldine Childs Chambers of Winteville.
Childs will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 15, from 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. and at Woodlawn United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 16, from 10:00-11:00a.m. Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3790 Brad Dixon Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
