He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Kimball Johnson and Edna Pendley Johnston Baker; and his brother Randy Johnston. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Brookshire Johnston; his children, Bryttany Johnston Cochran (Justin) and Cole Johnston; his sister Carol Causey (Bob) of Winston, GA; his stepbrother Steve Baker (Debbie) of Marshall, KY; his grandchildren, Kayce Cochran, Silas Cochran, Kamrynn Lawrence and Ivy Johnston; his aunt Pat; his uncle Everett Nix of Calhoun; and his siblings-in-law, Diane and Billy Carter of Calhoun. He is also survived by cousins and other relatives.
