He was predeceased by : his parents, Ivey W. Hughes and Martha M. Walls Hughes; his son Scott Howard Hughes; and his siblings, James Hughes, Gene Hughes, Vernon Hughes, Larry Hughes, Howard Hughes, Wayne Hughes and Martha Jennell Dobbs.

He is survived by : his wife Elsie Craver Hughes of Hazlehurst; his children, Bobby L. Dawson (Linda) of Willacoochee, Kevin E. Dawson of Hazlehurst, Jimmy of Hazlehurst, Sameythia Dawson of Hazlehurst and Tim Dawson of Hazlehurst; his brother Bill Hughes (Louise) of Dublin; and his sister-in-law Mae Hughes of Dublin. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
