He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Pickens and Margie Pickens; and his sister Janis Hulon. He is survived by: his wife Karen Pickens; his children, Jeff Pickens and Lindsey (Preston Murray); his brother Alvin "Al"; his wife Kaye Pickens; his sister Vicki (Jerry McFalls); his brother-in-law Jim Hulon; Bob (Sue Pickens) and Fitzgerald Murray.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated to either Saint Catherine of Siena Church or Glioblastoma Research at the Mayo Clinic.
