He was predeceased by : his granddaughter Amy Smiley. He is survived by : his wife Catherine Carter Ayers of Lilburn; his daughter Susan; his children-in-law, Richard Smiley of Lilburn and Marla Ayers of Marietta; his grandchildren, Ryan Ayers of Marietta and Rachel Ayers of Decatur; and his great grandchildren, Lilly Ayers and Grace Ayers. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
