She was predeceased by: her parents, Bluitt Gibbs and Elbethel Evans Brown; and her brothers, Paul Gibbs, Jimmy Gibbs and Eugene Adams.

She is survived by: her husband Alfred Wafer; and her daughters, Stephanie Whetstone, Sheila Reid, Sherylyn Strong, Staci Bullard and Sylvia Green. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, a host of nieces and nephews and four step-daughters.
