He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldred Bennett and Frances Bennett; his wife Helen Louise Bryant Bennett; and his daughters, Sandra Gayle Peavy and Sheryl Denise Huff.

He is survived by: his children, Roselyn Thaggard, Joseph E. McGrotha and Ross Eugene McGrotha; his great grandchild Penelope Toellner; and his sister Mary Nell Miller.
