He was predeceased by: his wife Emmalee Wyly Whatley; his parents, George Paul Whatley and Annie Gibson Whatley; and his siblings, George Paul Whatley, Jr., Jean Whatley Hatzenbuhler and Frederica Whatley Brown.
He is survived by: his sister Annie Whatley; his cousins, Matt, Liz, Faith Fabian, Emmalee and Tom; his sister Mary Lou Mentzer of Houston, Texas; his children, Thomas Gibson Whatley, Jr. (Maliece) of Savannah, Robert Wyly Whatley of Knoxville, Tennessee and Rachel Whatley Terrell (Dwayne) of Macon; his grandchildren, Thomas Gibson Whatley, III (Alexa) of Roswell, Georgia, Elizabeth Whatley Leblang (David) of Peachtree Corners, Georgia and Jackson Robert Whatley of Knoxville, Tennesse; and his nieces and nephews, Suzanne Embree, Tom Hatzenbuhler, Virginia Belval, Marilyn Mentzer, Catherine Mentzer, James Brown and Paul Brown.
