She was predeceased by: her husband James Fortner; her parents, Ernest Lee Avery, Sr. and Lucile Scarborough Avery; and her brother Hugh Avery. She is survived by: her sons, David Fortner of St. Petersburg and Sidney Fortner (Bang-On) of Valrico, Florida; and her siblings, Lynette Drew of Demorest and E. L. Avery, Jr. (Nanette) of Vidalia.
