He was predeceased by : his parents, Kermit Roosevelt Patterson and Betty Ovelle Waters Patterson; his grandson Cade Derrick; his sister Sharon; his brother-in-law Glenn Mashburn; and his brother Johnny Patterson.

He is survived by : his children, Christopher Derrick of McCaysville and Jessica Derrick of Blairsville; his grandchildren, Alysa, Easton and Briella Derrick; and his brothers, Jeremiah Patterson of Montana and Timothy Patterson of Blue Ridge. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
