He is survived by: his wife Onie May Moore Mayo; his children, James Alan Mayo and Marian Lynne Mayo Turner (Ed); his grandchildren, Edward Slade Turner, Jr. (Kalena), James William Turner (Mary Kathryn) and Hannah Ruth Mayo; his great grandchild James Mills Turner; his sister Rachel Frances Mayo Foster (Mike); and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Gilbert, Sue Simpson (Bo) and Eddie Moore. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
