She was predeceased by: her parents, Dennis Gordon Smith and Zelma Mason Smith; her husband C. E. "Gene" Cowart; her daughter Teressa Cowart Sanders; and her siblings, Artie Smith, Elise Cribbs and Elvie Owens.
She is survived by: her children, Steven Cowart (Crystal) of Ellabell, Mark Cowart (Jolene) of Ellabell and Diane Lightsey (Nelson) of Statesboro; her sister Annette Butler of Pembroke; and her grandchildren, Abby Hunt (Jason), Shera Waters (Mark), Jameson Lightsey (Diana), Jeremy Cowart, Justin Cowart (Jennifer), Shae McDaniel (Charles), Christen Morris (Gary) and Brad Cowart (Katy). She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
