He was predeceased by: his daughter Barbara C. Shepard (Billy); his parents, Erwin Carpenter and Addie Pearl Carpenter; his stepfather Theodore Carpenter; and his siblings, Harry Carpenter (Jackie) and Evelyn Carpenter Fox (Leonard).
He is survived by: his wife Flora Jean Carpenter; his children, Beverly Carpenter, Ken and Russ Carpenter; his grandchildren, Nicole DiFiore of Richmond Hill, Erica Birchall (Riley) of Richmond Hill, Candace Shepard of Richmond Hill, Tyler Shepard (Missy) of Richmond Hill, Julia Craig (Jacob) of Tennessee and Kody Carpenter of New York; and his sister Bertie Rahn of Richmond Hill. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
