She was predeceased by: her parents, Emmett Edward and Edith Marie Carter; her husband William Earl Matheny; her stepdaughters, Sonia Elaine Martin and Lisa Evans; and her siblings, Bobby Edward Carter and Doris Marie Rogers.
She is survived by: her brother Wayne LeBron Carter. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404).
