He was predeceased by: his wife Merle Jaudon Zittrouer; his parents, Corley Zittrouer and Mary Ruth Zittrouer; and his siblings, Randall, Richard Zittrouer, Hilda Morris and Kathryn Michaelson.

He is survived by: his sister Mary Ruth McMillan; his children, Corley Zittrouer (Mary Lynn), Ernest, Jr. Zittrouer (Linda) and Emily Chaffin; his grandchildren, Brendan (Erica), Christopher (Hallie), Kayla, Kelsey, Ernest III, Erik Zittrouer, Kathryn and Chadwick Chaffin, Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Chapman and Landon Zittrouer.
