He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. Purvis and Elsie Lee Knapp Purvis; and his wife Margaret Cato Purvis. He is survived by: his children, Christine (Keith Westlake), Elizabeth (Terry Colson), Margaret Purvis and Eugene (Stacey Purvis); his sister Ruth Trollinger; and his grandchildren, Brooke Cornwell, Aubrey Colson and Tyler Purvis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
