He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fred Hurst of Ducktown, TN and Maxine Mull Hurst of Blue Ridge, GA.; his wife Carol A. Hurst; his stepchildren, Molly Moore (Billy) and Daren Painter; his daughter Wendy Reeling (Scott); his grandchildren, Caleb Moore, Sarah Beth Moore, Hunter and Ryan Reeling; his sister Freda Hurst; his sibling's children, Amanda Shilling (Brad), Steven Stoll (Kelle) and Alan Stoll; and his great-nieces, Fiona Stoll, Hadley Shilling, Maddy Stoll, Emily Wade and Megan Wade.
