He is survived by: his wife Jane Thornton Gilbert; his children, Ellen Melcher (Bruce) of Leesburg, GA and John Thornton Gilbert of Thomaston; his siblings, Joyce Holland of Thomaston and Marshall Gilbert (Melinda) of Arlington, VA; his sisters-in-law, Bettina Gilbert of Alexandria, VA and Jo Thornton of Kennesaw, GA; and his grandchildren, Rachel Melcher of Leesburg, GA, Maggie and Kendall Gilbert of Thomaston.
