He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Lee James and Louise Eubanks James; his daughters, Kimberly James and Melody James Kemp; and his sister Patsy McLemore.

He is survived by: his sister Elenor Belcher of Thomaston; and his grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Jennifer Pitts, David Martin and Janice Kemp. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
