He was predeceased by: his siblings, Norman Shumate and Patsy Owenby. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Smith Shumate of Thomaston; his children, Michelle Shumate Daniel (Mike) of Thomaston, Dewayne Shumate (Casey) of Ft. Valley, GA and Chad Shumate (Angie) of Thomaston; his half-brother Wendell Blanton; his grandchildren, Nick Goodman (Deann), Josh Goodman, Jade Shumate, Leah Shumate and Zac Shumate; and his great grandchildren, Nicholas Goodman, Adalyn Goodman, Autry Goodman, Gill Marcus and Frankie Marcus.
