He was predeceased by : his parents, Annie Laura Blount McKinley and James Trice McKinley, Sr.; his grandparents, Susie Trice McKinley, Thomas Richmond McKinley, Etta Hammonds Blount and William Otis Blount; his sister Becky McKinley McDaniel; his siblings-in-law, Bobbie S. Elliott, Carlton H. McDaniel, Ronald E. Salter, Bruce Howell, Joe Phelps and Wayne Elliott; and his great-niece Laura Huey.

He is survived by : his wife Glenda Salter McKinley; his daughter Laura Alicia McKinley; his sisters, Linda McKinley Jones and Cindy McKinley Culverhouse (Greg); his sisters-in-law, Sylvia S. Howell, Carlene S. Phelps, Dianne S. Boatright (Ben) and Sylvia S. Ivie; his pet Mama Oreo; and his caregiver Jessica Tigner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
