He was predeceased by: his wife Maebell Hawkins; his sons, Jerry Nelson and Alton Nelson; his daughters-in-law, Vicky Nelson and Marsha Nelson; and his siblings, Elton Hawkins, Buddy Hawkins, Troy Hawkins and Hazel Quinn.
He is survived by: his children, Shirley Huckaby (Kenneth Patrick) of Thomaston, Barbara Nelson Cargile of Thomaston and Alvin Nelson of Thomaston; and his sister Mae Franks of Thomaston. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
