He is survived by: his wife Ella Fukunaga of Kailua-Kona; his sons, James David Fukunaga (Raynell) of Waimea, Jeremy Fukunaga (Aleah) and Jairus Fukunaga (Tifani) of Kailua-Kona; his siblings, Setsuko Vallance, Jane Sato, Suetaka Fukunaga (Victoria) and Shigeyuki Fukunaga; and his sisters-in-law, Shino Fukunaga, Georgeanna Oyama (Stanley) and Florence Rangasan. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
