He was predeceased by: his parents, Nonie Bowles and Nellie Bowles (Harmon); and his son Ervin Bowles. He is survived by: his wife Joan Bowles (Pietzman); his son Dennis Bowles (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Jennifer Cook (Doug), Angie Bowles and Vincent Long (Lacy); and his siblings, Andy, Florence, Pat, Fern, Louise and Rita. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Adel Methodist Church and St. Croix Hospice.
